In the ER, a nurse starts an IV to administer painkillers. Then the ER doctor takes a look and orders an x-ray. The results show Fred broke his collarbone.
Finally, the nurse puts a sling on his arm, and the doctor discharges him from the ER. Since Fred’s doctor did not admit him as an inpatient, he may owe up to a $50.00 ER copayment.
